Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Program at Bak Middle School of the Arts focuses on the development of technical skills in a variety of media. In the sixth and seventh grades, our curriculum is designed to teach students how to use various artistic mediums and techniques. These are developed by hands on studio projects that strengthen hand /eye coordination, critical thinking, and sharpen their skill level. At the eighth grade level our department’s focus is to encourage students to develop a personal vision and question the meaning of their art.

Over the years our visual students have participated in numerous local and national art competitions, the most notable of which is the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Our students consistently place Gold and Silver Key awards, and are invited to attend the yearly recognition ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Just to place this prestigious award in perspective, this means that Bak Middle School Visual Arts students were judged “best of the best” from over 70,000 submissions nationwide!
